Kirsty Ward graduated from CSM in 2008 before being snapped up by Italian fashion goddess Alberta Ferretti and this was followed by a collaboration with Fashion Week debutant David Longshaw. Kirsty then launched her own label in SS11 showcasing her clothes as well as a jewellery collection to much acclaim.
Kirsty's clothes are canvases on which she demonstrates her many skills: Intricate beading, embroidery, boning, and manipulated contrasting fabrics (from sheers to waxed cottons), juxtaposed with excessive statement jewelry which in turn offsets everything perfectly.
Kirsty’s creations are born of an experimental interest in binary oppositions: The seemingly minimal is made intricate, masculine collides with feminine, classical is turned modern and bad taste is transformed into high art. Ward was inspired by the ‘bad taste’ of the 1980s: Tinsel, lametta, peach/mint interior colour schemes and the artist Felix Topolski.
