Vasiliev is a photojournalist who travelled around Russia including prisons and the notorious Siberian gulags to photograph the condemned's body art. The tattoos are symbolic images that together have become a visual language to tell the damming life story of the skin's wearer. He compiled his photographs recording symbols and their meanings into 'The Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia'. I want a copy.
